Blasts from a gun sounded again Friday afternoon at an infamous intersection in the Charleston Farms community in North Charleston.

Arthur Washington was walking with his 5-year-old son in front of a furniture store at the corner when the gun was fired. The small boy held his father's hand as Washington explained what happened.

"Four guys in all black were walking down the road. I didn't pay them much attention, but before they got through the intersection, pow, pow, pow!" he said. "Then different cars went in four different directions."

People scattered, and several young men ran down Sumner Avenue, Washington said. The victim of the shooting fled to safety up Attaway Street, where police and EMS met him.

Inside the North Corner convenience store at the intersection, clerk Briss Annab heard the shots and at first thought it was firecrackers. By the time he stepped outside to see what was happening, everyone was gone, he said.

The victim was shot outside the store, said police Maj. Coyle Kinard. He said officers had no suspects.

Two people were shot in their extremities May 24 in what was described as a drive-by shooting at the corner, and an 18-year- old man was shot April 17 as he left the convenience store. Several other shootings have been reported this year within blocks of the corner.

"The violence never ends," said Charleston Farms resident Phillip Tharpe.

To provide information, call North Charleston police at 554-5700 or Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
