COLUMBUS, Ohio – With a loaded roster from top to bottom, Ohio State’s football team embarks on a new season in 2024 with the same mindset: Return to the top of the mountain in college football and stop the bleeding against their hated rival.
Entering his sixth season at the helm of the Buckeyes – and touting a 56-8 record – coach Ryan Day’s seat is growing warmer as the losses to Michigan pile up, sending NCAA national championship expectations up in smoke.
Elite football is no longer acceptable. Ohio State must elevate or face failure once again.
Ohio State football games are scheduled to be broadcast on Big Ten Network, FOX and CBS. There are no current games scheduled for ESPN or ABC, but that may change. If you’d rather catch the action live, tickets are on sale for all Ohio State football home and away games for the 2024 season.

A glimpse at the 2024 Ohio State Buckeyes
After a frustrating quarterback conundrum last season, Ohio State will have a host of quarterbacks expected to compete for the starting role this time around. Will Howard, a Kansas State graduate transfer, is the front runner, while redshirt sophom*ore Devin Brown and freshman transfer Julian Sayin are likely next in line. The roster also boasts redshirt freshman Lincoln Kienholz and freshman Air Noland.
The departure of running back Dallan Hayden to Colorado was quickly solved as the backfield has been boosted with the addition of Ole Miss junior transfer running back Quinshon Judkins. Redshirt junior TreVeyon Henderson returns in what could be the best 1-2 running back punch in college football. Henderson tallied 156 carries for 926 yards with 11 touchdowns. For the Rebels, Judkins racked up 271 carries for 1,158 yards and 15 touchdowns.
The rest of the backfield is no slouch with a pair of playmaking freshman in James Peoples and Sam Williams-Dixon expected to find their roles.
With nine returning starters, the defense is expected to be one of the fiercest in the country, led up front by dominant redshirt juniors JT Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer. Seniority is also on display with nose tackle Ty Hamilton, defensive tackle Tyleik Williams and middle linebacker Cody Simon while redshirt junior cornerback Denzel Burke remains a stiff threat. Redshirt sophom*ore linebacker CJ Hicks and the sensational transfer sophom*ore safety Caleb Downs will be key players to emerge this season.
The Buckeyes allowed only 11.23 points per game last season, behind only Michigan. The stars are strewn across the field once again.
Speaking of stars, the receivers have reloaded via co-offensive coordinator Brian Hartline’s treasure chest of star power. Jeremiah Smith, a freshman, is expected to be a natural, joining sophom*ore Carnell Tate and veteran redshirt junior Emeka Egbuka.
Graduate senior Gee Scott Jr. will return at tight end while sophom*ore Jelani Thurman looks to make a leap in the position.
Sophom*ore receiver Brandon Inniss, who could see special teams time, is also on many defensive radars while redshirt junior Jayden Ballard will try to find a sizeable role in the stacked roster. If it is Howard under center, he will inherit maturing gold.
How will the offense look under offensive coordinator Chip Kelly? The Buckeyes averaged 30.54 points per game last season. The team amassed 50 touchdowns.
Offensive line coach Justin Frye’s bunch up front is a mixed bag of experience and evolution.
The Buckeyes offense line is manned in the middle by Alabama graduate transfer Seth McLaughlin while redshirt junior Donovan Jackson and redshirt junior transfer Josh Simmons anchor a veteran left side. The right side will have redshirt sophom*ore Tegra Tshabola and the veteran leadership of redshirt senior Josh Fryar. Keep an eye on sophom*ore right guard Luke Montgomery for some impactful playing time.
Junior Jayden Fielding returns as the kicker after leading Ohio State with 97 points. He also made 49 of 50 extra point attempts and 16 of 20 (80%) of his field goal attempts.
